My Top 2 Favourite Collectibles/Antiques of All Times

I was just thinking the other day about what were my favourite collectibles/antiques. One of my friends asked, since I am such an avid collector of beautiful vintage collectibles, if I actually had any favourites among all the items I've ever come across.

Since I am one of those people who do not really have preferences on what to collect as long as it aesthetically pleases, this was a tough question to answer. Nevertheless, I shall list my absolute top 2 favourites among the collectibles of this world right now.

1. Diecast Cars

Of course, considering that my blog is named Diecast Collectibles and Antiques, my first and foremost favourites are collectables that are diecast, especially diecast cars. I have a rather large collection ( and still growing ) of diecast cars from Lledo, Dinky, Matchbox etc and I find that there are so many people in Malaysia who have the same love for diecast cars as I do. I have no doubt there are more diecast lovers out there in the world ( especially in Europe, considering diecast cars started in Europe ). The beauty in diecast cars is the intricate work done on each car. Vintage diecast cars are even more special as most of these cars are painstakingly hand-painted by talented artisans and the cars themselves are usually replicas of automobiles from the past. This gives it a very nostalgic feel to it and I can certainly understand why some collectors hold on to their collection zealously.

2. Automatons

Automatons, for those who are not familiar with this term, are machines/objects that are self-operating and usually has some kind of mechanism built into it. A few examples are animated music boxes, animated coin boxes and clockwork clocks. My constant favourites are the animated music boxes and animated coin boxes. I've even put in pictures of my own animated music box and coin box. Typically, these type of collectibles are not only exquisitely made but are usually rare as most have do have them generally do not wish to part with it, preferring to pass it down to their children.

Based on the amount of effort it takes to make a single automaton ( in the olden days, most of these things are handmade and requires an amazing amount of time to complete), it is no wonder these collectibles remain one of the most sought after items anywhere in the world. In eBay, these items are usually the first to go. Of course, if you are just starting your antique collection, these type of collectibles are not the best to start off with as they are usually expensive.

Of course there are many other collectibles in this world that are just as rare and unique as the one I listed above. I have only listed ones that I personally enjoy. What are your favourite collectibles?

Introductory Post

While I am not new to blogging, this will be my first blog on blogger. My aim for establishing this blog is to share and learn with others who enjoy diecast collectibles and antiques as I do. Hopefully as time goes on, I will be able to meet many others just like myself. Until then, cheers!
